At the time of his death Ray was working on his catalogue raisonne with Phyllis Stigliano, who curated important shows of his work at the Nassau County Museum of Art and in Philadelphia. He created this image for a sticker that Phyllis could use in her correspondence with Ray's collectors, dealers, and friends in her work for the survey of Ray's oeuvre. At least three people have told me that Ray told them in the months before his death that he was about to reveal his greatest "nothing."
